Program Details

The Addiction Psychiatry fellowship includes assessment and treatment of dual diagnosis patients, case conferences, psychopharmacology clinics, and didactic seminars on all major aspects of addiction.

The program includes scholarly activity and numerous opportunities to be involved in the research of addiction, including the ability to collaborate with the Northeast Node of the Clinical Trials Network. Patients seen in the program cover a range of socioeconomic diversity. There is also substantial opportunity to teach psychiatric residents and Dartmouth medical students.

The program offers exposure to various levels of care in addiction treatment, including the Intensive Outpatient Program at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center and residential rehabilitation at the Veteran's Affairs Medical Center (VAMC).

• Approximately one-half of the fellowship is located at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center Addiction Treatment Program (ATP). During the ATP rotation, the trainee gains clinical experience in the intensive outpatient program, the Moms in Recovery program, and the psychopharmacology clinic, which offers extensive experience with various medications for opioid use disorder. The other half of the year is spent at the VAMC, treating patients in the residential rehabilitation unit, outpatient clinics, and through consultations.
• Fellows spend thirteen half-days working with the director of the local Opioid Treatment Program (OTP) at Habit OPCO, a federally-licensed treatment center that dispenses methadone.
• Other experiences include working with the Director of Addiction Services at New Hampshire Hospital and with the pain management team at the VAMC.
