Advanced Education in General Dentistry Program Residency (AEGD)

Program Overview

The Advanced Education in General Dentistry program is a 12-month, full-time program that provides multidisciplinary oral health care for various patients, including those with special needs.

The host site, North Country HealthCare, is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), which allows the resident the opportunity to provide comprehensive care to underserved populations. North Country is a Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH).

Clinical time is Monday through Friday with monthly carve out for didactic sessions delivered by NYU. You will have morning huddles with your attendings. At the close of clinical sessions, you will have a debrief the day’s events, discuss notes, patients, treatments, and expectations for the next day’s schedule, etc.

Your initial patient panel will consist of incomplete treatment plans from the previous residents. First month will focus on periodic exams, quadrant restorative dentistry, emergencies, and anterior and posterior simple endodontics. Appointment times vary depending on type of procedure.

Your experience will include a digital workflow- radiography, intraoral scanners, intraoral cameras – used for treatment of various fixed, removable and implant cases.

Core Experiences

Through North Country HealthCare, residents experience a wide range of dental issues and procedures with patients who are often medically comprised. Residents develop comprehensive treatment plans and complete them with patients.

Working at North Country HealthCare will not only help new dentists hone critical skills, but will give them the unique opportunity to serve a very diverse patient population—ethnicity, language, housing status, history of oral health care, etc.—and provide patients with long-awaited and much-needed relief.
