FHCSD is currently seeking an Associate Program Director for our Psychiatry Residency Program. Located in the City Heights neighborhood of San Diego, this new community-based training program offers psychiatric education and hands-on experience with training sites throughout San Diego County. Our program’s mission is to recruit, train, and retain a diverse group of psychiatry physicians with a passion for providing caring, affordable, high-quality psychiatric care to the underserved. This is a crucial leadership role and a driving force to expanding access to qualify mental health care to underserved populations in local community.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Complete all required documentation in accordance with departmental standards
  • Comply with electronic medical record requirements, including medication reconciliation, finalizing notes, and clearing out personal pool
  • Support with curriculum design and planning
  • Provide clinical supervision, monitor projects, and program development 
  • Participate in program evaluation and clinical competency committees 
  • Serve on residency program committees as assigned  
  • Provides direct patient care in residency clinic
  • Provides precepting and evaluation of the performance of residents 
  • Teach residents through a variety of mediums, including lectures, seminars, conferences, and direct patient care in residency clinic
  • Effectively manage time between educational, administrative, and clinical care duties  
  • Participate in scheduled staff meetings, committees, quality improvement activities, and peer review as needed  
  • Serve as a role model, mentor, and advisor to residents in the program
  • Work effectively with patients from diverse social, cultural and economic groups
  • Demonstrate culturally sensitive and respect diversity in all interactions
  • Adhere to professional and ethical standards of conduct  
  • Support the Program Director (PD) and core faculty in the implementation of policies and procedures consistent with institutional and program requirements  
  • Assist with the incorporation and application of ACGME Milestones
  • Actively participate in faculty development initiatives  
  • Serve as a course director in Residency program required and elective rotations, if needed  
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Education and Licensing Requirements  

  • Current certification in the specialty by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN), or specialty qualifications that are acceptable to the Review Committee
  • Current American Heart Association healthcare provider CPR (BLS)
  • Active DEA license
  • Graduate from an accredited school of medicine
  • Must possess current unrestricted license to practice in the State of California if applicable.
  • Must meet FHCSD driving requirements
     

Professional Experience Needed

  • 5 years of experience working in the field of psychiatry required
  • Minimum of 3 years faculty teaching experience with a psychiatry residency required
  • Academic leadership experience serving in assistant/associate or program director role preferred
  • Experience with underserved populations, as well as outpatient and inpatient psychiatry preferred
