UTMB is proud to announce the first-of-its-kind, ACGME-accredited, combined 4-year Emergency Medicine/Aerospace Medicine Residency. Residents pursuing this pathway will be eligible for both Emergency Medicine and Aerospace Medicine board certification, via the American Board of Emergency Medicine and American Board of Preventive Medicine, respectively, at the completion of their training. Residents from our combined program are trained to provide medical support to populations exposed to aerospace and extreme environments, and to be knowledgeable about the physical and engineering aspects of the flight environment (e.g., including, but not limited to, the physiology of high G-stress, hyper- and hypobaric environments, and radiation exposure). Our residents have the privilege of training in various locations, including the University of Texas Medical Branch, NASA Johnson Space Center, commercial space companies, Federal Aviation Administration, United States Air Force, US Antarctica Program, and various other sites.
All applicants to the combined Emergency Medicine/Aerospace Medicine program must submit an application through the Residency Centralized Application Service- ResidencyCAS for combined ACGME program number 7974800001.
Applications will be considered separately by each specialty and acceptance into the combined program is contingent upon acceptance to the Emergency Medicine and Aerospace Medicine residency programs.
Residents accepted into the program will be required to apply to the UTMB School of Public and Population Health if a prior MPH or equivalent is not obtained.
