With a focus on academic knowledge, clinical skills and cutting-edge research, our two-year Endocrinology Fellowship Program provides comprehensive and rigorous training in endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism.
Over the course of their training, fellows acquire advanced skills and expertise in the following areas:
The first year of fellowship is primarily dedicated to clinical training in inpatient and outpatient settings. During this clinical training, our fellows are exposed to a wide range of endocrine conditions, from basic pathology to rare and complex cases such as metastatic pheochromocytoma and insulinoma. Under close faculty supervision, fellows learn to manage these conditions with increasing independence and confidence. In this first year of training, our fellows learn to perform a number of endocrine procedures, including thyroid ultrasound and fine needle aspiration, the management of insulin pump therapy, interpretation of continuous glucose monitoring and the reading of DXA scans.
The second year of training is mainly dedicated to an in-depth basic, clinical or translational research experience. In their time away from research, fellows continue to attend a weekly endocrine continuity clinic and a monthly diabetes continuity clinic. They also participate in Type 1 Diabetes Pediatrics to Adult Transition Clinic and spend a three-month block attending a once-weekly Maternal-Fetal Medicine Clinic, where they gain experience in co-managing pregnant patients with various endocrine conditions and high-risk obstetrics. Select fellows interested in pursuing research careers have the option to stay on for a third year of training.
