At the Unity Health Family Medicine Residency Program, it is our great pleasure to train the next group of family physicians. Our three-year, ACGME-accredited program gives you hands-on family medicine experience across a wide variety of specialties and subspecialties.

Thank you for your interest in the Unity Health Family Medicine Residency Program. We are an ACGME-accredited program that trains physicians to take a holistic approach to high-quality and innovative care for people of all ages. Our program's curriculum immerses residents in all aspects of family medicine and prepares them for practice in today's complex healthcare environment.

From the specialty and subspecialty rotations to our hospital teaching service taught by family medicine physicians, our focus is your learning. During your time at our Family Medicine Continuity Clinic, you learn to focus on measurable, quality care and make a positive impact on our underserved and at-risk population.

Regardless of the practice setting (hospitalist, clinic physician or emergency physician), Unity Health Family Medicine graduates report a high level of satisfaction in their residency choice and their preparedness for practice.

Curriculum

Your time spent in the Family Medicine Residency Program will give you real-world experience across a variety of medical specialties. In addition to the block schedule listed below, family medicine residents also receive:

  • Instruction in the MICU, psychiatry and other subspecialties.
  • Residents are allowed to use six elective blocks to go more in-depth for specific types of care. Tracks include: Emergency, Psychiatry, Clinic, Hospitalist and General.
  • Opportunities to perform procedures, including subclavian lines, chest tubes, central lines, IVs and in-office procedures.
  • Access to our simulation lab with multiple ACLS scenarios with a SimMan®, SimJunior and SimBaby.
  • One-on-one rotations with subspecialists (Dermatology, Sports Medicine/Ortho, Pain Management and others).
  • The opportunity to work with upper-level residents as well as independently.
  • Weekly didactics on family medicine and other interdisciplinary topics.
  • Family Medicine four-week night float block, once per residency year (instead of a call schedule).

How to Apply

We only accept applications for the Family Medicine Residency Program through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). We participate in the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP) and use code number 2104120C0. Our ACGME Program ID is 1200400726.

Only six applicants are accepted each year. Preferred applicants meet the following criteria:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • USMLE scores of Step 1 – 200 and Step 2 – 209 or greater, or COMLEX scores of 400 or greater.
  • Dean's letter or Medical Student Performance Evaluation (MSPE).
  • Three letters of recommendation.
  • ECGMG certification, if applicable, by June 2020.
