The mission of the Bayhealth Medical Center Internal Medicine residency program is to recruit, prepare, and retain outstanding physicians who will provide meaningful, exceptional, and valuable healthcare for the growing community of Kent and Sussex County Delaware. The mission of the Bayhealth Medical Center is to “strengthen the health of our community, one life at a time”. The Internal Medicine residency program is aligned with that mission and will continue putting those words into practice. By recruiting exceptional medical graduates and exposing them to the beauty and diversity of our community, the residency program aims to provide the next generation of physicians for our growing population. Treating each life… one at a time.
The backbone of our curriculum is an X+Y schedule. X+Y scheduling has been the most important innovation in internal medicine education during the last decade, and our schedule proudly balances inpatient and outpatient experiences, work and life, while maintaining continuity and building relationships.
Bayhealth’s Kent Campus offers a comprehensive array of services to the residents of Central Delaware, including cardiac surgery and diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterizations; endovascular surgery; da Vinci® Si™ Surgical System; neurosurgery; family-centered birth services and neonatal care; cancer care; orthopedic and rehabilitation services; advanced digital imaging; inpatient and outpatient medical and surgical care; intensive, intermediate and coronary care; and a 24-hour emergency department.
The new Bayhealth Internal Medicine residency practice, which opened July 2021, is located at 804 N. DuPont Blvd. in Milford, Delaware. Built in 2018, our office was renovated in 2021 to meet the needs of a residency program practice. With 12 exam rooms (including a procedure room), behavioral health office, and plenty of natural light, it’s a fantastic facility for both patients and residents. The gratitude we have felt from patients makes our practice a place you will find joy each day.
Milford is located in a physician shortage area and our practice provides care for an underserved population. Southern Delaware is one of the fastest growing areas in the entire country. Both retirees and young families have moved in large numbers to Kent and Sussex counties in the last decade. When fully staffed in 2024, the practice will add more than 20,000 patient visits to this community per year. The impact we are already making on this community is tremendous and will continue to grow each year.
Bayhealth’s Sussex Campus offers a comprehensive array of services to the residents of Central and Southern Delaware, including an interventional room for radiologic and cardiac procedures; da Vinci® Si ™ Surgical System; inpatient rehabilitation; family-centered birth services and women’s services, including an obstetrical emergency department; general surgery; cancer care; gastroenterology; orthopedic and rehabilitation services; advanced digital imaging; inpatient and outpatient medical and surgical care; intensive and intermediate; and a 24-hour emergency department.
