At the heart of our residency program lie the core competencies outlined by ACGME: patient care, medical knowledge, professionalism, systems-based practice, interpersonal and communication skills, and practice-based learning and improvement. With these competencies in mind, we have established a curriculum that draws on clinical experiences and encompasses case-based discussions, web-based learning, simulation, and lectures. Our aim is to empower residents with a progressive level of autonomy, fostering the development of their knowledge base and confidence as they progress from GPY1 to PGY3. Residents will complete inpatient rotations at Riverside Community Hospital, and provide continuity care with our outpatient clinic partners.
We are confident that with these tools, you will emerge as an excellent internist and lifelong self-directed learner. Our residents excel not only in patient care but also in their ability to thrive in the ever-changing healthcare environment.

This program is designed to offer residents a rewarding, educational environment where residents are provided individualized learning opportunities by faculty and staff who support and sustain one another throughout quality care delivery. Our faculty are committed to ensuring the residents’ clinical experience and educational needs are fulfilled while expanding residents’ perspectives to be inclusive of cultures, values, and ideals.

Our program uses the “4+1” scheduling system. During the “4” week blocks, you will engage in rotations spanning various specialties. The “+1” week is dedicated to continuity clinic, offering five half-days for clinical practice, two half-days for research and quality improvement projects, and three half-days for didactic sessions and simulation lab experiences.
We offer focused curricular tracks for residents seeking to explore careers in Hospital Medicine and Primary Care. The major curricular threads include involvement in group quality improvement projects, teaching of business operations, enhanced point-of-care ultrasound training, and additional clinical experiences. Residents selected for the Hospital Medicine track will attend the national American College of Physicians conference annually; and those in the Primary Care track will attend the Society of General Internal Medicine conference annually.
