Connecticut Institute for Communities Health (CIFC Health) Psychiatry Residency

"Welcome to the Psychiatry Residency at CIFC Health, a 4-year ACGME accredited program in Danbury, Connecticut that emphasizes outpatient care and community health. As the Psychiatry Residency Program Director, I know that the decision of where to apply for your residency can be daunting, and I appreciate your decision to consider CIFC Health. CIFC Health is a Federally Qualified Health Center serving over 16,000 patients, the vast majority of whom are "at risk" due to challenges associated with Social Determinants of Health. We take pride in ensuring that our residents receive the highest quality education that is most relevant to the day-to-day practice of a psychiatrist in a community setting, preparing them to both immediately lead a behavioral health team and be leaders in the field following their graduation."

Outpatient and Collaborative Care

In addition to the standard rotation schedule required by ACGME, our curriculum is unique in the opportunities provided to graduates.  Our residents are exposed to outpatient care earlier in the program via the Collaborative Care Model rotation where they will work closely with other departments at CIFC Health, such as Internal Medicine and Women’s Health, utilizing concepts of population health and providing evidence-based care in an interdisciplinary fashion.  They will also learn basic and practical concepts of psychotherapy formulation and implementation.  Finally, residents will have the opportunity to work closely with community outreach teams to embed themselves in the community while they develop educational projects to engage community members and destigmatize mental health care.

Community Care

Treating individuals in the community pushes us to be mindful of the factors that inhibit seeking care. At CIFC Health, you will discover a wholistic approach to medicine that incorporates lifestyle changes, traditional medicine, and modern medicine that is more beneficial for patients than any one approach could be alone. Additionally, the Patient Centered Medical Home approach with the wrap-around behavioral, nutritional, and dental services allow you, as a provider, to really focus on a patient's overall health and wellness, rather than just treating acute problems as they arise.
