UAB Selma Family Medicine Residency Program has been training compassionate family physicians in Central Alabama for more than 45 years and is one of the few truly rural family medicine residency programs in the country. Our program combines knowledge and resources from a world class academic medical center with a hands-on community setting, and our residents treat a diverse patient population with a wide range of medical needs.
Selma has become the referral center for the seven surrounding counties due to the wide range of medical services offered in the city. Our primary teaching hospital, Vaughan Regional Medical Center, is an accredited 175-bed facility providing expert care for patients in the region.
We provide our trainees with the education and skills they need to become compassionate and successful physicians. Our program has 100 percent match fill rate and our graduates have a high board passage rate.
We welcome medical students and prospective residents to come rotate or observe to have a thorough look at all our program has to offer.
Our program is designed to train family medicine physicians who see the whole patient and family, and understand the social, physiological, economic, cultural and biological factors the patients face. We accomplish this through training based on the core curriculum of family medicine, which includes continuity of care, family oriented comprehensive care and clinic practice.
