The St. Mary’s Regional Hospital Family Medicine Residency offers a fully accredited three-year family medicine residency program designed to prepare residents for success in any practice setting.
For 50 years, St. Mary’s Family Medicine Residency in Grand Junction, Colorado, has trained broad-spectrum family physicians to serve under-represented communities. Surrounded by the stunning landscapes of Western Colorado, our program combines rigorous, hands-on training with an ethic we call “casual excellence”—where high standards meet a culture of respect, balance, and authenticity. Join us and fulfill your career vision in a place where purpose meets adventure.
Our program seeks to provide training for residents and students in full-spectrum family medicine, caring for patients of all ages, genders and backgrounds. We provide this training in the context of high-quality, hands-on patient care experiences using biopsychosocial, interdisciplinary, evidence-based approaches. Residents graduate with the skills necessary to practice in rural underserved areas where healthcare resources may be limited, while maintaining flexibility to pursue their desired career paths.
Our residents have the opportunity to rotate through a variety of settings, including:
St. Mary's Regional Hospital was established in 1896 by the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth and merged with Intermountain Health in 2022. It is the largest medical center between Denver and Salt Lake City, with a catchment area of approximately 250 miles in all directions.
Our 300-bed Level II Trauma Center and NICU offers unopposed resident training and hosts the most subspecialities in Grand Junction. St. Mary’s has earned Center of Excellence designations for Stroke, Cardiac and Vascular care.
The St. Mary’s Family Medicine Residency Clinic is a busy, full-service family medicine clinic with a diverse patient population. We are a NCQA Patient Centered Medical Home focused on providing care for all individuals regardless of ability to pay for services. 42% of our patients have Medicaid, 26% have Medicare, 22% are commercially insured, and 7% have no insurance.
