The Anesthesiology Residency program is dedicated to equipping our residents with the skills and compassion needed to excel as versatile physicians. Our goal is to nurture well-rounded professionals who are adept at delivering anesthesia services to a diverse range of patients in various clinical environments and scenarios.
Our residency program’s mission is two-fold:
We offer four advanced anesthesiology residency positions each year (PGY 2–4). The applicants also have the option to link an advanced program with the preliminary PGY-1 medicine program at St. Vincent’s Medical Center (NRMP program code 1080140P2) or with the preliminary PGY-1 surgery program at Waterbury Hospital (NRMP program code 1097440P1).
Prospective residents may think of this linked program as comprising up to four categorical positions —internship in internal medicine and a guaranteed position in anesthesia for the completion of training — even though our programs are separately administered and require separate applications through ERAS.
Throughout their training, residents will engage in a diverse curriculum that ensures comprehensive education across various anesthesia subspecialties. Our curriculum and program structure are focused on equipping residents to become independent physicians, fellowship candidates and future leaders.
In their final year, residents may select up to three electives which may include any anesthesiology subspecialty, a research month or any other rotation discussed and agreed upon in conjunction with the program director. The schedule may be adjusted by the program director to ensure adequate clinical training experiences, case log numbers and Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) compliance.
Residents within the Anesthesiology Residency program enjoy a healthy compensation package including but not limited to a bi-weekly salary, paid time off, medical, dental and vision insurance, long-term disability insurance, basic life insurance, accident insurance, an employee assistance plan, access to a retirement plan and much more.
The following annual salaries are effective July 1, 2024 - Jun 30, 2025. Salaries are paid bi-weekly.
